We are Damien and Uta.
We met in 1988 and that’s when it all started.
Damien’s passion for architecture and Uta’s focus on languages and business took us on a 17 year adventure to Germany where we started a family and worked in a diversity of jobs which led to self-employment in a town called Vechta in 2004. Homesickness was the motivator to move back to Port Lincoln, South Australia in 2007 which was the start of the design office ‘Damien McQuillan Architect’. Uta qualified as a Landscape Designer in 2021 and ‘Damien McQuillan Architect’ became ‘E+MQ Design’ to offer multi-tiered services offering Architecture, Interior Design and Landscape Design.

Damien has over 37 years experience in the field of architecture & interiors over a range of project types. We as a company have come to realise the importance of a holistic & cross-disciplined approach to all our projects. 17 years practice in Europe has shown us unique solutions to a range of economic and energy challenges facing the built environment.
Our work is and continues to be, varied in its types and styles which reflects our commitment to placing the client at the centre of our decision making. Our practice prides itself on an inclusive attitude to designing, documenting, costing and managing your projects. We wish to involve as many stakeholders as possible to contribute at the earliest stages of a project’s inception. We believe by being inclusive of all involved in the project at its earliest stages we can truly have a transparent and honest process. Uta - Landscape Designer and Horticulturist
My work as a landscape designer ranges from inner city courtyards and suburban gardens to large private properties. E+MQ Design’s focus is to design gardens with a strong focus on linking the architecture of the house and buildings to the surrounding landscape. We design spaces for living in to maximise lifestyle opportunities and a sense of well-being.
As E+MQ Design is based in Port Lincoln, we understand the unique growing conditions of coastal areas and the climatic conditions that prevail in this part of the world. We offer our clients support beyond the garden's installation and love to revisit and follow it as it grows and matures, providing advice to the client along the way.
